I founded Smart Kitchens because I believe the heart of the home should work for everyone — not just the people it was originally designed for.
Before retraining as a kitchen designer and fitter, I spent 30 years in the digital technology industry as a User Experience Designer. My job was to understand how people interact with the world around them, and to remove the friction that gets in the way. I've simply carried that same philosophy into the physical world.
From 2020 to 2025 I specialised in digital accessibility, helping organisations make their websites, apps and services genuinely inclusive. In 2025 I spent a week in London with my mentor Rick — who is blind — and it changed the way I think about independence. Watching someone navigate the world with confidence, adapting their environment to suit their needs rather than the other way around, was the moment everything clicked.
I retrained with NOCN to gain the qualifications to become an inclusive kitchen designer and specialist fitter, and set up Smart Kitchens in 2026. Before that, I had renovated my own home to a high standard, so I came to this with practical hands-on experience as well as a designer's eye.
The work I do now is the most rewarding of my career. I pride myself on genuinely listening — understanding how you use your home, the challenges you face day to day, and what your kitchen needs to do for you — before I ever pick up a tool.
You deal with me, and only me. No sales reps, no revolving door of contractors, no one who doesn't know your project inside out. Just honest, skilled, personal service from start to finish.
I hope I can help you too.
